The very first thing Little Brother did yesterday- even before he peed- was to pick up a book and read it!
Yes, he has been reading books for many years, but actually comprehending the words, not so much. Patience and steadiness are paying off for Little Brother. He is now reading fluently and with confidence and JOY!
His next step was to go out and rake. He made, of course, a big pile and jumped in it. He was so proud to be helping with yard work.
After some time playing with Legos, Little Brother sat down by himself and began to read aloud again. This time, he wanted me to go do my thing so he could read "by myself". That means without me hovering and occasionally giving hints. Again, a very proud little boy!
For lunch, we had cheese soup with grilled cheese sandwiches. A very kind friend brought us this wonderful meal knowing that we have been sick and laid up with the flu the past two weeks. It was such a joy for me to merely heat up food that had been prepared with a gourmet flair! The soup was incredible and tasted like fondue. Dipping grilled cheese on wholewheat walnut bread into the soup was just icing on that cake. A little cheese indulgence is fun! And of course Little Brother loved it all since cheese is his favorite food group.
Then, unknown to me, Big Sister helped Little Brother celebrate his new reading talent by recording him reading aloud. This is what I have always hoped for my children- that reading would be a joy. So far, with hard work, it is a great joy for both kids. Here is the video of Little Brother reading. I especially enjoy his sweet voice and his sister's sweet commentary of "Good!".
My kids are truly amazing!
