Montessori Math Beads

 Today, the children enjoyed several math games online, such as timed addition drills, numerical sequencing, 10, 100, 1000, 10,000 placement, as well as some geometry. After that, Big Sister began to measure angles around the house using a goniometer (which does not, as it turns out, measure gonorrhea) and a 45/90/45 triangle.

Big Sis recorder her findings on a sheet and determined whether the angle she measured was acute, right or obtuse.

In the meantime, Little Brother did some abacus work, focusing on basic addition, subtraction and parsing the number 10. We also covered a little bit about the teens.

Then both kids came together to play a game of Go To The Dump with math beads instead of cards. Go To The Dump is basically Go Fish with math. Each player tries to match two cards in their hand together to total 10. Then that set is played. Today we simply used bead chains from 1 to 9. It was lots of fun.

And that is how we can spend two hours having fun with math, without once sitting down and using a math worksheet.
