The kids have been learning about Leonardo DaVinci the past three weeks. Today we had a small celebration and dedicated all of our efforts in honor of Leonardo himself.
The children made their own notebooks, and even wrote notes in mirror image like Leonardo did! They labeled their booklets on the front using their first name and their town of birth, just like Leonardo da Vinci did. It might look like this: Jane da Chicago

| The adult section of the library often has better books for kids. We checked out two huge volumes on DaVinci's paintings and machines. Its enjoyable just to pore over the pages, but the kids also drew their own pictures of machines and inventions. They chose from DaVinci's works, their own ideas, or from other books that use DaVinci's ideas of the "mechanical drawing". Big Sister discovered that books like Dinotopia take advantage of the Leonardoesque technical drawings. Little brother particularly enjoyed using tracing paper to copy seige machines and weaponry. |
