Oh my goodness! This was SO FUN to make!
This past week, our family got to see a relic of St. Mary Magdalene (twice!) and we collected a lot of little holy items such as medals, cards, etc.
I had been looking for an excuse to make a little 'Altoids Tin' traveling altar- so this is it. A little prayer box that has all the elements to bring you closer to God and His saints in prayer!
This is how it turned out.

St. Mary Magdalene Memory and Prayer Box, closed securely with a rafia tie. |
| It is made from a tin box, about the size of an Altoids tin- purchased at the dollar store! |
| How fun is this? Our mementos from a visit to St. Mary Magdalene's relic... |
A holy card, carefully split down the inside to expose both the image of our saint, and the prayer for intercession. A holy medal and 'believe' bauble on the left and darling 3-D garden bug stickers from the dollar store. |
| She is so beautiful! |
| Lots going on here.... so pretty all together! |
To the left, a wooden jar, faux painted to look like Mary's alabaster jar of spikenard. I placed a tiny wad of cotton inside, with drops of frankincense... smells wonderful! The little bee is sweet. And on the right, a red egg for Mary's miracle proving Jesus' resurrection to a doubting emperor... and an image of the relic of St. MM that we viewed in person! |
| Here, above the image of St. MM's relic (a piece of her tibia!), Our Lady gazes lovingly. She was Mary Magdalene's adopted mother too! Also, a tiny icon of St. MM witnessing the resurrected Christ, and a teeny tiny book.... |
| ....a teeny tiny book of the Stations of the Cross. |
Now, I am all about saving money. So I have to tell you how inexpensive this project was! The prayer cards were free, and many of the images have been cut out of icon and religious catalogs. Things like ribbons are found in drawers at my house! I did pay for special scrapbook paper because I wanted a certain style. For enough paper to do five boxes it cost only 2$ on sale. The tins were found at the dollar store, in the gift wrap section. They are sold as gift certificate boxes, made of metal, and the size of Altoids tins. No hinges on these, which is fine. I did purchase a 25cent holy card of the Stations of the Cross in order to make the mini-Stations booklet. And the medal was 90cents at our local Catholic goods store. The little wooden eggs and pots were 4$ for enough to do five boxes, and one of the most expensive items. Really neat scrapbooking stickers were at the dollar store too!
