This weekend, the kids and I took advantage of a public event to kick off a study on Lewis & Clark and the Corps of Discovery! Our favorite museum hosted a voyageur canoe event, where as many people as would fit filled up two large canoes. One was almost 40 feet, the other a bit smaller. Athough Lewis & Clark may not have used canoes just like these, they did use dugouts and travel the same waters.
Our hosts taught us about Fr. Marquette and Joliet, the Piasa Monster, the ecology of Thompson Lake (on which we paddled) and more. Two hours of paddling and hearing stories of the history of this area were lovely.
