Critters

This October critters invaded our home! OK. We invited them in. But still! 

At our last camping trip, Big Sister headed down to the fishing hole and swooped up quite a habitat in her net. She came home with little frogs, big frogs, minnows, tadpoles, and aquatic plants for our creek habitat aquarium. 

We discovered quickly that the bullfrog could not be kept with the other critters. GULP! They eat anything and everything in their path.

So we put the bullfrog in his own tank, with an inch of water and some feeder goldfish... He ate 9 in five days. We kept him about a week and then returned him to the outdoors where he can eat off of someone else's ticket and burrow into the mud for the winter.

The smaller frogs and tadpoles, however, are doing great eating fishfood, algae and crickets. They are in the creek habitat along with three fat creek chubs from our own backyard creek. Its so fun to watch the differences in tadpoles and minnows. A little amphibian-fish comparison.

Its nice to have something living in our home this time of year. As the grey of winter kicks in, watching these little critters keeps us happy!
