Big Sister and Little Brother have been having historical adventures! After volunteering with Dickson Mounds Museum for the past year, Big Sis asked to be a part of the annual dig hosted by Dickson Mounds Museum and Michigan State University. To her delight, she was accepted and is now going in for three full days a week to dig. What an incredible experience!

Before the dig started, we were invited (as TEAM PALEO- a volunteer group) to help prepare. We got to try our hands at surveying and staking out plots, and assisted with magnetometry- a process by which the underground is magnetically imaged onto a digital map. Very cool stuff. This is all at the Morton site. Another day, we got to search outlined grids at the Ogden-Fettie site for artifacts that had worked their way to the surface by farm equipment. Lots of pottery and chert shards, and a few arrow points as well.
