This week, the biologists at Therkildsen Field Station posted an image of a bryozoan they had found to their Facebook page. I was immediately intrigued! I knew about fossilized bryozoans, but not living ones. And not only living, but in a freshwater lake along the Illinois River!
So Big Sis, Little Brother, and A Friend went hunting with me to find the elusive freshwater bryozoan. We had to laugh at ourselves as we left our hunting grounds empty-handed. We did not find any bryozoans, but we did enjoy the beautiful Thompson Lake at Emiquon. We will head back again soon to search, since the biologists have seen them there.
