Today, the children had fun setting up the last nativity scene of the season. The three kings arrived today, from the east. To Little Brother's delight, one of the kings even has a sword! Oh, yeah, and gifts for the baby Jesus.

This set is designed by H. A. Rey, of Curious George fame, and published in 1942. Absolutely charming, and no monkeys anywhere. Big Sis read the text, rewritten from the Gospels of Luke and Matthew, as Little Brother cradled the baby Jesus.

A few weeks ago, Big Sis, who is a wonderful reader and elocutionist, read from the Gospel of Luke at Papa's church,
St. Paul Episcopal Cathedral. She has become quite familiar with the infancy narratives by this point.

Little Brother can be a busy, sword wielding boy. But he is also frequently quite compassionate and caring. His gentleness with the baby Jesus is endearing and genuine. He will make a marvelous father someday.
